Board members are available during regular meetings of the Garrett Park Swimming Pool Association, during pool social events, and frequently throughout the pool season. Please share your comments, concerns, and suggestions!
We are always looking for interested civic-minded members of our pool to help guide the direction of the GPSPA. Please feel free at any time to contact a board member for information about how to get involved. Pool board meetings are held from time to time during the year and members are always welcome. Meeting dates will be posted here and on the website calendar.
News from the Board is posted here. The GPSPA Board can be reached at Board@garrettparkpool.org.
2012-2021 | KRISTA Merker Reilly & her husband Patrick have been members of the GP pool since 2004 and part of the Board since 2012. They have 3 children: Nic (20) is a Sophomore at Butler Univ. Gabrielle & Christopher (18) are Seniors at WJHS and GP Lifeguards. All 3 children are Ladybugs and the family has been active volunteering for swim team over many years. One the Board, Membership is Krista’s focus. Krista works downtown for the Personal Care Products Council – a non-profit. |
2012-2021 | JEAN Horan was appointed to fill an open Board position in May 2012. She was initially the secretary, and now has been the president for the last 3 years. She is interested in returning to continue the task of automating communication to our members, working with the pool managers, and representing the interests of the swim community. Her daughter, Gianna, is a Ladybug, so she understands the interaction that the Board should have with the swim team leadership. She also serves on the Women’s Club board. |
2017-2021 | BARBARA Jackson has been a pool member since 1959, a swim team member, a gate attendant and served as co-Treasurer and in charge of hiring for a previous GPSPA Board in the early 1990’s. Recently Barbara worked with the Board to help settle the dispute over the noise of adult parties. Barbara is a graduate of Georgetown University with an MBA in Finance from George Washington and previously worked for a number of defense contractors before, “retiring” to volunteer work and to rear three sons and daughter with her husband, Bill Rienstra. |
2017-2021 | ELIZABETH Dirgins has lived with her husband Will and daughters Lily (16) and Sanna (12) in Garrett Park and Kensington since 2006, and they have been pool members and Ladybugs since. She and her family have loved the pool, the people, and the neighborhoods surrounding it since the day they moved in, having moved three times within the two zip codes just so they could stay. She has been an active volunteer with the swim team, and is our go-to for food truck presence and approach at the pool.
She works at Volkswagen of America, Inc as at VP, CX and Digital Product, Captive Lending. and her husband works for Egon Zehnder International. Her daughters are proud Garrett Park Elementary School alumni and currently both attend the Holton Arms School in Bethesda. |
2020-2021 | MIKE Bangert and his family have been members of Garrett Park Swimming Pool since 2013 when they moved to White Flint Park. Michael is husband to Lori and father to Anna, Michael III, and Thomas. Michael’s board responsibilities include liaising with the Garrett Park Swim Team and masters program, which works well because he also serves as an MCSL Official for the swim team and enjoys 6:00 AM masters workouts. In previous aquatic experience, Michael recently retired from the Ocean City, MD Beach Patrol after 20 seasons of keeping people safe at the beach. Professionally Michael is a Product Manager Viavi Solutions developing test equipment for telecommunications networks. |
2021-2022 | DONNA Callejon and her partner Debbie Whiteside have been Garrett Park residents and pool members since 1998. Soon after arriving in GP Donna wrapped up a 15 year career at Fannie Mae and began a transition to working in the nonprofit sector. She is a member of the executive team at GlobalGiving and has served on numerous local, national and international boards. Donna loves travel, exercise, going to Nats games, enjoying good meals, and hanging out with family and friends, especially Debbie’s two children and their spouses, their new grandson Harris, and the family’s many pups. |
2021-2022 | VALERIE Craig moved to White Flint Park with my husband, Marco, and two sons, Giulio and Kiran, three years ago. The pool was a big part of the decision to come to the neighborhood! We really appreciate the gathering place and the sense of community that comes with sharing fun times with neighbors. My husband and I both work in conservation related fields, and being out in nature is a big priority for us. We love to hike, walk with our dogs (Cheddar and Gouda), and spend time with family and friends. And one of my favorite things to do is lay by the Garrett Park pool in the summer in full sun with a good book. |
2021-2022 | BRIDGET Giblin -My husband (Kevin) and I have lived in Garrett Park since 1984. We raised our three children (Caitlin, Fiona and Patrick) here and they were all enthusiastic swim team members and pool employees. The Garrett Park Pool was a central part of our lives while they were growing up. I have enjoyed taking part in the Masters Swim program offered at the pool these past few years. I currently work at The National Library of Medicine and have a background in Biomedical Research. I look forward to working with the other Pool Board Members towards a safe and healthy pool season in 2021. |
2021-2022 | THERESE Keating moved to Garrett Park in December of 2000. Pat, my husband and I have lived in the area since 1986 and wanted to be in a neighborhood that allowed us to walk and bike places. We have 3 daughters who were young at the time…4, 7 and 10 years old. It did not take long for us to fall in love with Garrett Park. The girls could walk to elementary school, we were right next to Beach Drive and when the summer rolled around we were in heaven. We lived about 6 houses away from the GP pool. We spent many days opening the pool and many evenings closing it. The girls all enjoyed the pool and worked there every summer. It is a hidden gem that is inclusive to those that live in the neighborhood. We still enjoy swimming most days and look forward to the summer months. |
2021-2022 | CHRIS Keller is a Pool member and resident of Garrett Park for 40 years. Over that time, my family and I have been involved in nearly every aspect of the pool: swim team (both boys), staff (one son), and pool board member (myself in 2014-2015, as well as my wife, Henri, in the 1980’s). We’ve used the pool for early-morning masters, moonlight swim and everything in between, as well as parties and picnics. In recent years, I supported the Board’s efforts to put GPSPA on a business-like basis while maintaining the uniquely friendly, informal character of the pool; I admire the flexibility, resiliency and dedication of the Board in meeting the unique challenges of operating during a pandemic. I support continuing initiatives to further improve the Garrett Park Pool experience, while keeping an eye on finances and the needs/desires of the majority of pool members. In addition, I have been active in one fashion or another (volunteer, elected official) with the Garrett Park Arboretum for 39 years, so I have a particular interest in the landscaping of the pool grounds. |
